WHO WE ARE

The International Association of Transportation Regulators (IATR) is an non-profit, professional association of government transportation officials. Founded in 1989, the IATR is primarily an educational organization which encourages close cooperation and sharing of information among the various government agencies that regulate transportation industries, while working to resolve common problems and promote best practices. The IATR’s organizational motto is Innovating for a Multi-Modal Future for All!

Our IATR membership now includes not just traditional government agencies that regulate taxicabs, liveries, black cars, paratransit and limousines, but now also includes Transportation Network Company (TNC) state regulators, public transit agencies, departments of transportation and motor vehicles, insurance departments, airports, planning agencies, and other regulators of new mobility services, including bike sharing, microtransit, pedicabs, technology platforms and car sharing. IATR is comprised of hundreds of government agencies representing international cities, states, provinces, airports, and agencies involved in for-hire ground transportation.

IATR held its first organizational meeting on September 22, 1988 in Tampa, Florida. The organization was incorporated as a not for profit corporation in the District of Columbia on March 8, 1989.
